My partner and I are planning Hanoi to Sapa in January and we need to choose between the overnight sleeper bus and the train. I am a very light sleeper, so I keep going back and forth: the bus sounds bumpy and cramped, but the train sounds noisy with people moving around all night.
For light sleepers, which one actually gives you a better chance of sleeping? Are the train cabins with four berths quiet enough, or is it worth paying extra for a two berth cabin? And on the bus, do the cabin style sleepers help, or do the mountain roads still shake you awake?
One more thing: we arrive in Sapa early in the morning either way, so which option drops you somewhere useful for breakfast and onward transport to town? We do not want to arrive half asleep in the middle of nowhere with no plan.
