By the time I reach the south I will have had about two weeks of heat and humidity, and Dalat keeps coming up as the cool mountain escape. I am tempted to slot in 3 days just to breathe properly again.
But is Dalat actually worth the detour, or is it one of those places that sounds better than it is? I am not into the kitsch photo spots. I like markets, coffee, and a bit of nature. If you went, what did you actually enjoy there?

Three days is the sweet spot I reckon. We did the night market, a coffee farm tour just outside town, and one lazy day just wandering the old French villas. Evenings get properly cool so bring a jacket. The only thing I would skip is the cable car to Truc Lam, it was fine but nothing special.
Dalat is absolutely worth the detour in my opinion. We went for 3 days after two sweaty weeks in the south and it felt like being able to breathe again. The morning market is fantastic, coffee everywhere, and the pine forests around Tuyen Lam lake are lovely for a slow walk. Skip the kitschy photo spots, you will know them when you see them.

That settles it, three days it is. The coffee farm tour sounds right up our street, do you remember which one you went with? And noted on the jacket, I would never have guessed Dalat gets properly cold.
