We are in Sapa for 4 nights and I keep seeing the Bac Ha Sunday market recommended as a must do. It is about 3 hours each way by car though, which sounds like a very long day trip just for a market.
For people who have been: is it actually that different from the markets in Sapa town, or is it mostly tourists now too? I love the idea of seeing the Flower Hmong stalls, but not if I am just going to be stuck in a crowd of tour buses.
Also, does it really only happen on Sundays? We could rearrange our days if it is worth it.

Seconding the early advice. Also bring cash, most stalls do not take cards obviously, and the food section is great. The thang co is… an experience. Just try a little.
We did it last month and I would say yes, it is worth it, but only if you go early. We left Sapa at 6:30 and got there before the big tour buses. The Flower Hmong stalls in the morning are the real thing, people actually buying and selling, not just posing for photos. By 11 it does get crowded though.

Early start it is then. Did you book a private car or join a group tour? I am trying to figure out the cheapest way to get there.

We joined a small group tour from our hotel, it was 450k per person including lunch. Private car would have been around 1.2 million. The group was only 8 people so it felt fine.
