Packing light for three weeks and planning to do laundry along the way. Our hotel in the Old Quarter quoted 60k per item, which feels steep for a t-shirt. Are the little laundry shops on the street actually good, or do clothes come back smelling weird and half damp?
How long does it usually take, same day or next day? And is it priced per kilo or per piece at the street places? Any shop you would actually recommend near the Old Quarter?

Street laundry is totally fine, I use it everywhere in Vietnam. Usually 40 to 50k per kilo, back the next day. The hotel 60k per item is a tourist tax, ignore it. Just avoid the ones that look like they dry everything in a damp back room.

Thanks, that price difference is wild. Do they do same-day if you drop it off in the morning?

Some do, if you drop before 10am you can often get it back by evening. Just ask. I always travel with one spare outfit in case it runs late.
