We are in Phu Quoc for three days and the cable car to Hon Thom keeps coming up in every conversation. Everyone says go early, but I saw afternoon slots advertised cheaper somewhere. Or is that just the sunset package thing?
Main question: if we go around 2 or 3pm, are we stuck in a massive line, or is morning actually worse because that is when all the tour groups go? We want the sea view from up there but not an hour of queuing with a toddler melting down.
Also, is Hon Thom itself worth the full afternoon, or is the ride the main event and the island is a quick look around? Trying to plan the day properly.

Hon Thom has the water park and a decent beach, we spent about three hours there. With a toddler I would do the ride over, one beach stop, then head back before the afternoon crowds build. The ride back around sunset is really pretty though.

Sunset ride back sounds perfect. Is there anywhere decent to eat on Hon Thom, or should we eat before we head over?

There are a few restaurants near the cable car station on Hon Thom, mostly Vietnamese food and seafood, nothing fancy. Prices are higher than on the main island. We had a big breakfast before going and just grabbed snacks there. If you are picky, bring something with you.
We went at 9am on a Tuesday and walked straight on, maybe ten minutes of waiting. When we came back around 1pm the queue was much longer, the tour buses had arrived. Morning is the move, and the light over the water is better for photos anyway.

Morning it is, thanks. Is Hon Thom worth staying for lunch, or is the ride the main event and the island is a quick look?
