Quick money question. The ATM just spat out a stack of 500k notes and now I am that person holding up the line at every coffee shop.
The street vendors especially seem not thrilled. One lady at a fruit stall just shook her head and pointed at her small change box. Totally fair, I would not want to break 500k for a 30k mango either.
Is there a trick to this? Do some ATMs let you pick smaller notes, or do you just go to a Circle K and buy something small to break them? Asking before I annoy another vendor.

Tourist areas and restaurants take 500k no problem. It is the street stalls and tiny vendors where you need small bills. I keep a separate pocket with 20s and 50s just for street food, saves the awkward moments.
BIDV ATMs let you choose your denominations, look for the option on screen before you confirm. Total game changer. Otherwise the Circle K trick works, buy a water and pay with the 500k, they always have change.

Replying to Imran Momand @Imran Momand Wait, all BIDV ATMs have that option? I have been using whatever ATM is closest. Going to hunt one down today.

Not all of them, but most of the newer BIDV machines have it. Look for a button about denominations before you type the amount. If the machine does not offer it, cancel and try another one nearby. Took me three tries in Da Nang to find one, but they are around.
