Flying into Hanoi in three weeks with my e-visa approval letter, and I am getting completely mixed messages. Half the blogs say a screenshot on your phone is fine, the other half say print it or the immigration officer will send you to the back of the line.
What is the actual situation at Hanoi airport right now? Do they just scan the QR code off your phone, or do they want paper in hand?
Also curious whether it differs at land borders, since I might exit into Laos overland. And do airlines even check the printout at check-in before boarding? Trying to figure out if I need to hunt down a printer before I leave.

Flew into Hanoi in September with just my phone. They scanned the QR code off my screen, took maybe 30 seconds. I did have a printed copy in my bag as backup and honestly I would still print it, it costs nothing and the one time their scanner acts up you will be glad. Saw one guy get waved to the side because his phone died at the counter, he had to go charge it. Just print the thing.

Replying to Diana Sue @Diana Sue Good to know, and yeah the dead phone story is exactly what I am afraid of. Did the airline check anything at check-in or only at Hanoi immigration?

Replying to iamthedragon @iamthedragon VietJet asked to see mine at check-in in Sydney, they just glanced at the printout for two seconds. At Hanoi immigration they scanned the QR code. So both ends cared, but check-in was barely a look. Definitely have it on your phone AND printed, the printed one is what they actually want to hold.
