Okay, deep breath. Solo female traveler, first time in Asia actually, and I have 10 full days in Vietnam in January. I have been reading so much that my brain is soup, so here is my draft and please tell me what is dumb about it:
2 nights Hanoi, 1 night Ha Long Bay cruise, 2 nights Hue, 2 nights Hoi An, 3 nights Ho Chi Minh City. Flights between the big jumps, obviously not the bus for all of that.
My worry is that I am trying to do too much and will spend the whole trip in transit. Is 10 days enough to go north to south without it feeling rushed? If you had to cut one stop, which would it be? And is January weather going to ruin half of this plan? Be honest, I can take it.

One thing we learn the hard way: book the domestic flights early, they get expensive. And do not do a night bus then straight onto a Ha Long cruise next morning, you will sleep through the bay.
Rough sketch that worked for us: Hanoi 3 nights, Ha Long 2 (one night on the boat), fly to Hue, Hoi An 3, fly to HCMC 2. Do not try to add Sapa unless you drop something, that is where people mess up.
