Egg coffee in Hanoi, overhyped or must try?

From Singapore, currently in Hanoi for 3 days. Keep seeing egg coffee everywhere on Instagram but I’ve been burned by viral food before.

Is it actually good or just a photo prop? And if it’s worth it, which spot does it best? I only have tomorrow morning free for a proper coffee run.

Totally agree on the egg coffee, but have you tried the coconut coffee at Cong Caphe? Different vibe but equally addictive in my opinion.

@Oliver Bennett Replying to Oliver Bennett @Oliver Bennett I tried the coconut coffee after you mentioned it and it was way too sweet for me, felt like drinking a milkshake. Give me a strong ca phe sua da any day. My wife disagrees with me on this so clearly it is a personal thing.

Slightly overhyped for me, but still worth one cup. It is very rich, basically a dessert, I could not finish a full cup. My wife loved it though. If you are not into sweet drinks, try the coconut coffee instead, same place does a great one.

Must try, no question. Go to Giang on Nguyen Huu Huan, that is the original place from the 1940s. The egg cream on top is thick like dessert. Get the hot one, the iced version is good but the hot cup is the real experience.

@Janet Allan Giang on Nguyen Huu Huan, noted. Is it usually crowded? I hate queuing for coffee but I will make an exception if it moves fast.

@Ang Li Wen Samantha Replying to Ang Li Wen Samantha @Ang Li Wen Samantha Go before 9 in the morning and you will walk straight in. After 10 it fills up with tour groups and the queue gets silly. The afternoon is the worst of it. Early morning egg coffee by the window watching the street wake up is honestly the best version of it.

Early morning it is, thanks Janet. If Giang has a queue, is the Dinh place next door a decent backup or totally different?
