Flying into Noi Bai next week, landing around 9pm. It’s me and my partner with two big backpacks, first time in Vietnam.
I’ve read all the taxi scam stories and honestly I’d rather just Grab it and not think. Roughly how much should the Grab ride to the Old Quarter cost at that hour? And is the pickup point at Noi Bai easy to find?
Any other late-night arrival tips welcome. Cheers.

Just did this last week. Grab was around 300k to the Old Quarter at midnight. The taxi touts inside arrivals quoted me double, so definitely book Grab before you walk out.
Alternative if Grab surge is crazy: the official taxi counters inside arrivals charge around 400-450k flat to the Old Quarter. Slightly more than Grab but no waiting outside. Avoid the guys who approach you in the hall, always go to a counter or use the app.
Did this exact route last month. Grab car was 380k VND to the Old Quarter, took about 40 minutes at 9pm. The price is fixed when you book in the app so no surprises. Just make sure you pick the right terminal pickup point, the app shows you where to stand.

380k sounds reasonable. Did you have to wait long for the driver? Our flight lands at 11pm so I am hoping there are still plenty of cars around at that hour.

Replying to averageaussie39 @averageaussie39 Landed at midnight in August and our driver took maybe 10 minutes to reach the pickup point. One tip: the app tells you which column to wait at, follow that exactly, the arrivals curb is chaos at night and drivers will not come looking for you. Have your hotel name ready in Vietnamese on your phone screen.

Cheers Paul, that settles it. Midnight arrival, I will just pre book a car through the hotel and skip the 1am Grab lottery.
