I said in the things to do in Hoi An piece that tailoring was the question I got asked most and felt least able to answer, so I’ve spent a while actually working it out.
Part of the problem is that the usual method doesn’t work here. Normally you’d look at reviews and pick the highest-rated place. In Hoi An the big tailors sit at 4.7 to 5.0, several of them have thousands of reviews, and one has over fourteen thousand at a perfect five. When everything is five stars the ratings stop telling you anything, and you’re back to guessing.
So the question isn’t which Hoi An tailor is best. It’s which one suits what you’re having made and how many days you’ve got. Those two things decide it, and once I started thinking that way the choice got a lot simpler.
- Quick Answer: For a tailor in Hoi An, pick by what you’re making. BeBe Tailor on Hoang Dieu is the best all-rounder and the one to use if you’re short on time, since they’ll fit you within 24 hours and deliver to your hotel. Mr Xe on Nguyen Thai Hoc is where I’d go for a men’s suit you actually care about, because they’ll put you through three or four fittings and back it with a two year guarantee. A Dong Silk is the pick for real wool, wedding dresses and anything you might want to reorder from home later.
- The Three, and Who Each One Is For:
- BeBe Tailor, 05-07 Hoang Dieu. Fast, good value, huge operation, shuttle and hotel delivery. Best for most people.
- Mr Xe, 71 Nguyen Thai Hoc. Small, fussy, several fittings, two year guarantee. Best for men’s suits and anyone who cares about fit.
- A Dong Silk, 62 Tran Hung Dao and 38-40 Le Loi. Priciest of the three, real fabrics, keeps your measurements on file. Best for wool, weddings and reordering later.
- Rough Prices:
- Two-piece suit: $90 to $150. Three-piece in good wool: $250 to $400.
- Dress: $25 to $80 depending on fabric and complexity.
- Shirt: $20 to $45. Trousers: $25 to $50.
- Ao dai: from about $40.
- Time You Need: two clear days in town, minimum. Order the morning of your first full day, fit the next day, collect or re-fit the day after. Don’t order the day before you fly.
- What Actually Decides Quality: the fabric you pick, how many fittings you’re willing to come back for, and whether you brought a picture. Not the shop’s rating.
Why Reviews Can’t Help You Pick a Hoi An Tailor
This bothered me for a while so I’ll explain it properly.
Hoi An has hundreds of tailors and the ones that show up in searches all have enormous review counts and near-perfect scores.

45 Thu Tailor is sitting on more than fourteen thousand reviews at a flat 5 stars. BeBe has over seven thousand at 4.9. Mr Xe is on 5 stars from around seventeen hundred. Yaly’s boutique branches are at 4.9 and A Dong Silk is too.
A perfect 5 across fourteen thousand reviews is not something you see in other industries, and I’d take it as a sign that the whole review layer here is doing something other than measuring quality.
Tourists are happy, they’re on holiday, the staff are lovely, everybody leaves a good review the day they collect. Whether the jacket still fits after six months in a wardrobe at home is not a thing anyone comes back to update.
None of which means these shops are bad. They’re mostly not. It just means you can’t sort them by number, and if you’re standing on a street with 40 tailor shops on it, that’s the exact thing you were hoping to do.
What I’d sort them by is what they’re set up to do well, which does vary, and quite a lot.
BeBe Tailor: The One I’d Send Most People To
- Where: 05-07 Hoang Dieu, open 8am to 8pm daily
- Good for: suits at a fair price, quick turnarounds, anyone with two days or less
- Rating: 4.9 from over 7,200

This is the default recommendation and there’s nothing wrong with being the default.
BeBe is a large operation with a lot of staff, which sounds like a criticism and here it isn’t, because scale is what lets them fit you within 24 hours of measuring.
If your trip is short, that matters more than anything else on this page. They’ll also run a shuttle to your hotel and deliver the finished clothes there, and they’ll ship internationally if something needs finishing after you’ve gone.
Prices are reasonable for what comes out, especially on suits, which is what most of their volume seems to be.
The thing to be aware of with a shop this size is that you get whoever you get. People name individual staff in their reviews constantly, so the experience clearly varies by who picks you up at the door.
If the person you’re dealing with isn’t asking you questions, ask for someone else. That sounds rude and it isn’t, it’s how the place works.
If you’re getting one suit or a couple of shirts and you’re in town for two nights, come here and don’t overthink it.
Mr Xe: For a Hoi An Tailor Suit You Actually Care About
- Where: 71 Nguyen Thai Hoc, in the Old Town, open 8:30am to 8:30pm
- Good for: men’s suits, anyone fussy about fit, people with three or more days
- Rating: 5.0 from around 1,780

Smaller shop, smaller team, and a noticeably different way of working.
The thing people say about Mr Xe over and over is that they’ll make you come back. Three fittings, sometimes four. They’re the ones who’ll look at a jacket that seems fine to you and decide it isn’t, and ask you in again tomorrow.
If you’re in a hurry that’s annoying. If you want a suit that fits properly, it’s the whole point, and it’s the difference between a garment you wear and a garment you brought home.
They also put a two year guarantee on what they make, and it holds after you’ve left: send something back and they’ll fix it and ship it to you. No other shop on this page advertises that, and for a suit at this price it’s the single most reassuring thing I found about any tailor in town.
A fair number of people order more once they’re home and have it shipped, which is the same mechanism working in the other direction.
The trade is time. You need three days minimum here and I’d give it four. If your trip is two nights this isn’t your shop, not because they’d refuse but because you’d be getting the rushed version of a place whose whole value is not rushing.
I’d send men here for a suit before anywhere else in town.
A Dong Silk: For Wool, Weddings and Reordering Later
- Where: 62 Tran Hung Dao, with a second shop at 38-40 Le Loi, both open 8am to 9pm
- Good for: real wool, wedding dresses, anything you’ll want made again
- Rating: 4.9 at both branches

The most expensive of the three and the one where that’s most defensible.
Two things set A Dong apart. The first is materials. There’s a long-running argument in travel forums about how much of the “wool” in Hoi An is actually wool, and A Dong is the name that keeps coming up as sourcing the real thing.
If you’re having a winter suit made to wear in an actual winter, that matters, because a polyester blend looks fine in a Vietnamese shop and disappoints in February in Europe.
The second is that they keep your measurements on file. So you go home, you decide you want the same trousers in navy, and you order remotely.
Several people seem to do exactly this and it makes the higher price look different once you’re on your third order.
They also do a lot of wedding work, including remaking dresses years later, which is not something most of the tourist-facing shops are set up for.
Their Tran Hung Dao shop is a short walk from the ring of hotels just outside the Old Town, which is where I’d suggest staying anyway in where to stay in Hoi An.
Expect around $350 to $400 for a three-piece in good wool and about $45 for a shirt. That’s real money by Hoi An standards and cheap by any other.
45 Thu Tailor, the Name You’ll See Most
- Where: 06 Hoang Dieu, three doors from BeBe, open 8am to 8pm
- Good for: women’s pieces, dresses, anyone who wants a lot made in three days
- Rating: 5.0 from over 14,300, the largest count of any tailor in Hoi An
This is the shop more people search for than any other in town, so it deserves more than the footnote I gave it the first time round.
It sits on the same short stretch of Hoang Dieu as BeBe, which makes that street the easiest place in Hoi An to compare two big tailors in twenty minutes.
The pattern in what people describe is a Friday evening design session, a Sunday morning fitting, a Monday evening collection, with the fabric talk done properly at the start. Dresses come out around €80 to €90. That’s a three day cycle, which lines up with everything else on this page about how long you need.
I haven’t had anything made here, so it isn’t in my three, and I’d rather say that than pretend. If you’re on Hoang Dieu anyway, walk into both and go with whoever asks you more questions.
Three More Hoi An Tailor Shops Worth Knowing
Yaly Couture
Yaly Couture is the biggest name in town and has three shops, including a large one out on Nguyen Duy Hieu with a 3D body scanner. Quality is high and prices are at the top end.
Odd detail: the small boutique branch on Nguyen Thai Hoc sits at 4.9 while the big flagship with the scanner sits at 4.5, which I’d read as the big shop being a big shop.
Kimmy Tailor
Kimmy Tailor at 70 Tran Hung Dao, 4.7 from around 1,400, gets consistently good write-ups for asking proper questions at the measuring stage. Double pleats or single, how do you want the break on the trouser, that sort of thing. A shop that asks is a shop paying attention, and it’s the best free signal you get before handing over a deposit.
The Hoang Dieu shortcut
Two of the three biggest tailors in Hoi An are neighbours on the same short street. If you can’t decide, walk down Hoang Dieu and go into both.
It’s five minutes from the Ancient Town and you can do it on the way back from a morning walk, which is how most of my Hoi An mornings end up going anyway. The rest of what fills those days is in things to do in Hoi An.
The Six Side by Side
| Tailor | Street | Rating | Days needed | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BeBe Tailor | 05-07 Hoang Dieu | 4.9 / 7,200+ | 2 | Speed, value, short trips |
| Mr Xe | 71 Nguyen Thai Hoc | 5.0 / 1,780 | 3 to 4 | Men’s suits, fit, guarantee |
| A Dong Silk | 62 Tran Hung Dao | 4.9 | 3 | Wool, weddings, reordering |
| 45 Thu Tailor | 06 Hoang Dieu | 5.0 / 14,300+ | 3 | Dresses, large orders |
| Yaly Couture | Nguyen Thai Hoc | 4.9 boutique, 4.5 flagship | 2 to 3 | Top end, 3D scanning |
| Kimmy Tailor | 70 Tran Hung Dao | 4.7 / 1,400 | 3 | Careful measuring |
Hoi An Tailor Prices in 2026: What Custom Clothes Cost
Rough ranges. Fabric is what moves the number, not the shop, and a suit in cheap polyester costs a third of the same suit in wool at the same tailor.
| Item | Budget shop | Established tailor |
|---|---|---|
| Two-piece suit | $70-110 | $120-200 |
| Three-piece, good wool | n/a | $250-400 |
| Dress, simple | $20-35 | $40-80 |
| Shirt | $12-20 | $25-45 |
| Trousers | $18-30 | $30-50 |
| Ao dai | $30-50 | $60-100 |
| Coat or overcoat | $60-100 | $130-250 |
Two things about these numbers. Nearly everywhere expects a deposit of about half up front, and nearly everywhere will negotiate a bit if you’re ordering several pieces, which is worth doing once, politely, and then letting go.
And be suspicious of the very cheap end. A $40 suit exists in Hoi An and it is a $40 suit.
What Actually Makes the Difference
Having thought about this carefully, the shop matters less than three other things.
The fabric you choose
This is most of the finished quality and most of the price. Ask what things actually are, ask to feel them, and if you’re being told everything is wool while the prices vary by a factor of four, something is off.
Linen is the safe choice for anything you’ll wear in a warm country and it’s what I’d pick for a dress.

How many times you come back
A garment after one fitting is a garment that fits approximately. The people who come home delighted are almost always the ones who went back twice.
This is also why the trip length question matters so much, and it’s covered in how many days in Hoi An.
What you bring them
Pictures work far better than descriptions. A photo of exactly the thing you want, ideally on a body shaped roughly like yours, does more than twenty minutes of explaining.
Even better is bringing a garment you already own and love and asking them to copy the fit. That’s the single best thing I’ve ever done in a tailor here.

Ao Dai, Wedding Dresses and Shipping Home
Four specific things that come up and don’t fit neatly above.
Ao dai
Most of the big tailors will make one and a lot of small shops specialise in them. From about $40 for a simple one in synthetic fabric, more in silk.
If you want one you’ll actually wear and not a costume, ask for a modern cut and a fabric that isn’t shiny. The tourist version tends to be both.

Wedding dresses
People do fly here for this and it works, but it needs a week and it needs a shop that does it regularly. A Dong is the name that comes up most.
Bring your own lace or beading if you have something specific in mind, since it’s the fabric selection that limits you here, not the sewing.

Shipping and reordering
Most of the established tailors will ship internationally and most keep your measurements.
If you find a shop you like, order a small thing while you’re there, and then order the expensive things from home once you know how their fit translates to your body. It’s slower and it’s a much lower-risk way to spend $400.

And 24-hour turnarounds
They’re real and every shop offers them. What you’re giving up is the fitting cycle, so treat it as an option for shirts and simple dresses and not for anything structured.

Questions I Get Asked
Who is the best tailor in Hoi An? There isn’t one answer, and any page giving you a single name is guessing. BeBe for speed and value, Mr Xe for a men’s suit, A Dong for wool and weddings.
How much is a suit from a Hoi An tailor? $90 to $150 for a two-piece at an established shop, $250 to $400 for a three-piece in real wool. Half up front as a deposit is normal.
How many days do I need? Two clear days for something simple, three to four for a suit you care about. Order on your first morning, not your last.
Do I need to book a Hoi An tailor in advance? No. Walk in. What matters is arriving early in your stay, not booking ahead.
Is the wool real? Sometimes. Ask, feel it, and be suspicious when four fabrics are all called wool at wildly different prices. A Dong is the shop with the strongest reputation for sourcing the real thing.
Can they ship it home? Yes, most of the established shops ship internationally and keep your measurements so you can reorder later.
Is a 24 hour turnaround any good? For shirts and simple dresses, fine. For a jacket, you’re skipping the fittings that make the jacket.
What I’d Do
I’ve had clothes made at two shops in Hoi An and the results split cleanly. One item I still wear. The other has not left the wardrobe since I unpacked it.
The difference wasn’t the shop or the fabric or the price. I went back for a second fitting at one and skipped it at the other, because I was leaving the next morning and it looked close enough on the hanger.
So if you take one thing off this page, take that. Order on your first morning in town, put the second fitting in your calendar the way you’d put in a bus, and pick the shop that suits the garment: BeBe if the clock is against you, Mr Xe if it’s a suit, A Dong if it’s wool or a wedding.
The tailor you choose is maybe a quarter of the outcome. The rest is fabric, fittings, and whether you walked in with a picture.
