I’m going back and forth about a Jeep tour in Hanoi…

I’m going back and forth about a Jeep tour in Hanoi… Fun? Or would our time be better spent just wandering the Old Quarter for the afternoon? We are a family traveling with kids ages 8-16. If it’s your first time, Old Quarter exploring is great for a slow afternoon. Jeep tour is good if you want something guided and easy. Vie Travel AI can suggest a kid-friendly plan either way.

Walk around definitely. You miss the “feel” when your stuck in a car plus if you are in the back seats in a Jeep you can’t see anything due to the plastic windows

We enjoyed it. Our guide was great. We got to see a lot of the city and enjoyed the cool breeze of the top down. It was part of my nephews favourite parts (ages 8 and 10 at the time i think)

I agree, driving through the rubbish dump is unpleasant but we had a good guide and visited a farming family that made it interesting

The jeep tour offers a far more enriching experience. It takes you beyond the obvious, into corners of the city that only true locals, those with a real sense of place and taste would know. Rather than staying within the Old Quarter, the journey ventures much further, into neighborhoods. It allows you to witness Hanoi as it truly is, not just the commercialised scenes or areas shaped primarily for visitors, but the authentic rhythm of local living.

We did 2 things in 1 day which were amazing.. a 2 -21/2 hr jeep tour which incl a walk through locals neighbourhood and out to a few areas we wouldn’t have got to as well as train street to see a train come through. Then later that day we did a walking food tour through old town. Was absolutely fantastic! Covered so much doing these 2 things. Casey from Beyond Vietnam ‘Taste of Hanoi’ tour was fantastic.

Hanoi Backstreet tours Jeep tour was fantastic, you get to see so much more than busy streets, and trying to navigate traffic (as a pedestrian).
