Need some adviceI’m due to be travelling to Vietnam at the end of March from the UK, with the following route:Manchester → DubaiDubai → HanoiHanoi → Hoi AnHoi An → Con DaoCon Dao → Dubai (with a few nights in Dubai)Given the current situation in the Middle East and the latest FCDO advice, which is recommending only essential travel in parts of the region, it’s hard to know what things will look like by the time our flights are scheduled on 30 March. The challenge is that I need to make a decision this week on some of the hotels before further payments are taken. The free cancellation deadline is 14 March, and ideally I’d avoid paying large sums now only to then deal with the hassle of trying to claim it all back later. I’m currently seeing if the hotels might offer a bit of flexibility so we can cancel closer to the departure date if needed.Emirates are offering a refund on the flights, which adds another decision point.I’m trying to work out whether it’s better to wait it out and see how the situation develops closer to the time, or cancel now and look at an alternative destination (for example somewhere in the opposite direction like Barbados). Would really appreciate any advice or thoughts. Or what have other people done travelling around the same dates from the UK

We are going 3rd April via Doha, but Qatar are only offering refunds for flights up untill 22nd currently. All other flight options are minimum of £1000 extra for the 3 of us, vietnam airlines nearly double what we paid. We are thinking of cancelling everything and try again next year. I do not think it will be resolved by April, but could be proved wrong. We are planning trip to Europe in our camper instead as holiday prices, elsewhere, given it is Easter and school holidays are now also prohibitive.
If hotels are offering free cancellations take it. Watch the flights then closer to the time. Emirates going closer to 100% capacity end of next week.
Also booked for 24th march lhr-Doha-sgn. We’ve got 6 hotels booked and internal flights in Vietnam, we have until the 19th march to cancel our hotels without being charged. Holding out till then to see what’s happening with main flight.
We have the same issue but flying 23rd with Etihad who aren’t refunding that date yet. We are desperate to cancel as even if the flight goes ahead the FCDO is unlikely to change their position of not going there which means your insurance is likely invalid. Cancel whilst you can get a cheaper flight
I’m flying via Vietnam airlines from London end of next week which goes straight to Hanoi then to Da nang but I booked it a week before this all happened, so if you can get a refund and a new direct flight isn’t too expensive that could be a choice! Otherwise Barbados! 🇧🇧
Hi! We are meant to be flying with Qatar on the 21 March from Edinburgh – Doha – Hanoi then travelling around Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Singapore for 4 weeks. Our travel agent has said to contact them on the 14 March to see what is happening. Hopefully everything resolved, if not, looking to rebook with another airline. We are still planning on going and will only not go if the FCDO advises. I would recommend waiting until your airline cancels (this is what we were told) your flights, as hopefully you will get all of your money back and then re book.
Is your life worth it, going close to a warzone in an airplane with missiles flying everywhere.
I’m heading out to Vietnam & was watching fares rise quicker than I could press the button to confirm my ticket. If you’re going to rebook with another airline I’d do it now as prices are already around £700 for the end of March from Manchester. I booked yesterday for 18 March £750 with a quick stopover
Try flying from istanbul.
