Hoi An or Hoi An & Hue?Hi, we will be coming to Central Vietnam in August after a week in Kuala Lumpur. Originally, we booked 9 nights in a homestay just outside Hoi An. We wanted to have a more chilled out holiday with the beach and a few day trips after KL (plus we will be spending our final 3 nights in the chaos of HCMC before flying home). However, I’m not sure whether that’s too long in one place? I’m now wondering whether to head straight to Hue from Da Nang airport for two nights before coming back to Hoi An for 7. We’d probably try to get a private transfer there and the train back.Does this sound doable with two kids (15 and 11) in tow, or should we stick to our original plan? Being so close to Hue makes me want to visit but it would be a very long day trip with the whole family.

I was fascinated by the historical sites in Hue, the Imperial Citadel and the royal tombs, Khai Dinh and Minh Mong. It was definitely a highlight of my recent trip.

Stay in Hue for a couple of nights then head for Hoi An. That’s what we did. But August is rainy season in central Vietnam, last year it was totally flooded.

Totally doable. Your kids are older and if they’re used to travel, shouldn’t be a problem. There are not many flights to HCM from Hue but there are many from HCM or Ha Noi to Hue so you would want to go to Hue first, then train to Da Nang which is a scenic route on the way to Hoi An then car transfer back to Da Nang for your flight.

Visit hue for 2 nights n the rest at Hoi An n Da Nang as it’s close by. I used Dong Nguyen Van when I was there, including Hue.

I would include HUE. It’s so unique and you can hire a private car to take you around outstanding monuments and historical places at very reasonable price. It is so worth your time.
