Hi all, I am heading over to Vietnam for the first time at the end of the year and was wondering how the tailors in Hoi An work. Do you bring patterns or show photos or do you pick what they have and they just make it to fit? Thanks in advance

Get prices at home first and they charge in $us dollars so make sure with the exchange rate also plenty of examples on u tube need to do some homework regarding price and quality and don’t forget linen creases a lot

If you want an item copied take it with you, or if you have a photo show them that, or you can look through their cataloge, or you can just describe what you are after, or you can select a style already on display. They will take measurements and somtimes sketch a picture.

You suit yourself what you want, you bring a dress in for example to copy. Show they a picture of what you want made, or the got books and books of suits and dresses for you to look through. Also manikins with clothes on them. I been going to Hoi An for years, and only go to one tailor now Tina Design . She is the best tailor in Hoi An in my opinion. And reasonable priced, with friendly staff.

I chose a dress design that they had on a mannequin in the tailor shop, & then chose a fabric for it to be made in. We used the tailor shop above the Silk Museum where they teach you about silkworms & how silk is made & woven, then they take you upstairs to the tailor shop to see if you would like to order any clothing.

They have catalogs or you can show them an image on your phone.
