Last spring I stayed several days at the Vien Dong hotel for around 50 USD per night. I’m looking on Booking dot com right now and seeing no availability, and prices the following week around 180 USD per night. Is there some big event I don’t know about?

Last year I inadvertently bumped into Reunification Day preparations, and that was crazy enough.

    This is the HCMC forum.

The hotel is in HCMC, not Hanoi.

Find disregard. If you have better info then post it. The question is about early February in Hanoi.

The government activity will be offically going on during that period of time. Will hotels immediately drop their prices after that date? Doubful as they plan on people staying a few days longer. It is a major event with the parade preparations looking very much like April 2025 with lots of people coming to the city. How long before the hotel prices drop is anybody’s guess. As long as they have reservations and people will to pay the higher prices they will charge what they want. That’s the best info i have from my friends in Hanoi.

I’ll be going to Hanoi, but not until February, and I was careful to schedule a flight out before Tet.

From 1/19/2026 to 1/25/2026 the 14th Party Congress will be held in Hanoi. The security forces have been rehursing for parades and preparing security for various venues around Hanoi. Quite a major event. Probaby lots of party members and foreign dignataries will be in atttendance. Thus the higher prices.

Tet is 3 weeks away, doubt that would be it. During Tet many Vietnamese leave the city. Not sure how that affects tourists.

I won’t be there during Tet, pity, l would like to see Saigon then.

When..? Its leading up to Tet the biggest holiday of the year.

    Annie

Not as far as l know. High prices is due to dynamic pricing, when only a few rooms are left.

Plenty of other hotels available, better reviews and lower prices.
