Hello, my partner and I are traveling to Vietnam from August 12th to the 19th, and our current visa is only valid for that period.
We have a connecting international flight departing from Da Nang at 9 PM on August 19th, routing via Ho Chi Minh City, with the onward flight leaving on August 20th at 7 PM (resulting in an extended layover of over 19 hours).
Given that our visa expires on the 19th, are we permitted to exit the airport in Ho Chi Minh City during this stopover?
Otherwise, is it necessary to apply for a visa that covers August 20th as well? If so, can one submit a new visa application that overlaps the existing final date, or should I apply for a completely new visa valid from August 19th to the 20th?
Thanks in advance for any insights on this!

“Otherwise, is it necessary to apply for a visa that covers August 20th as well?”
Yes.
Take the full 90-days.

Thanks Michael, is it fine to reapply for same dates starting from 12 to 12aug+90 days?

It would have been better to start the visa well ahead of your arrival dates.
But, now you are running out of time, so use a start date of Aug 10, 11 or 12, it really doesn’t matter.
