Vietnam Holiday Decision: Phu Quoc vs. Hoi An

We are planning a trip to Vietnam in 2026 to celebrate my husband’s 70th birthday.

We are a sizable party, consisting of five couples accompanied by their children/our grandchildren (with ages 6, 5, 4, and 1). This totals 12 adults and 7 children. We require accommodation where each family can have a 2-bedroom unit.

We are seeking a resort that provides activities for kids, primarily focusing on the pool and beach.

Should we consider Premier Residences Phu Quoc? Or Vinpearl? Or perhaps another resort within a comparable price bracket?

Alternatively, would Hoi An be a more suitable destination—and if so, which resort would you suggest there?

Thank you for your advice!

    Doesn’t it just CTM. By someone who has never been or perhaps has an interest in the place.

    Anyway

    OP – They are two completely different places with very different vibes. If the beach and being in a resort are most important to you go for PQ. Premier is indeed on the nicest bit of beach on the island, it is a massive resort but there isn’t a lot apart from the beach nearby.

    Staying at An Bang beach you will have a much more Vietnamese experience, loads more reasonably priced food and drink options around and you’ll be able to do trips into Hoi An, My Son etc. Whichever way you look at it the beach at An Bang is not white sands and clear waters like it generally is at Kem. Weather should be good in both places at that time of year.

    Whichever you go for you’re likely to have a great time!

    Hi Yvonne. Premier residences is in a much better location on the best beach on the island(Khem Beach). Its exquisite white sand surrounded by mountains. The pools are enormous and there are 3 water slides. The resort is next to an attractive street with a lot of essentials like mini marts, takeaway foods and ice cream stands. The bus stop is right out the front and has a free shuttle every 30 minutes to sunset town about 5 minutes away, where you catch the cable car to a water park, dine and see a superb light and water show at night.

        @Yvonne F Which bit?

        The ‘sunset town’ thing?

        Not been, but heard it’s a blight / abomination of the island.

        And I have no reason to distrust the ones that made those claims, and having ‘Google’d’ it, it looks horrendous.

        Just my opinion, of course….

        @scottj765 Sunset town is dead.

        Phu quoc is nice for a winter break because there is not much to do.

        Hoi An offers much more in the area, like visit Da Nang and Hue.

        @scottj765 Hmm..best, exquisite, enormous, attractive + superb? 🤔

        Sounds like a lot of oversell!

    April weather is Hoi An ( An Bang Beach) better.

    An Bang you have all on walking distance and it’s a few minutes to the old town
