Top Beach Destination to Visit in October

My travel group is planning a 4-night stay in Phu Quoc during mid-October, and we are trying to determine the ideal location for a clean beach, excellent dining, and lively bar choices. Our primary goals are relaxation, swimming, and possibly a boat or day excursion. We were considering Long Beach—specifically the area around the Pullman or Intercontinental—but recent information suggests Khem Beach might be superior this time of year. Khem Beach appears stunning with a pristine shoreline, but my main concern is the availability of independent restaurant and bar options nearby (within a 10-15 minute radius), as most casual eateries and beach bars seem clustered near Duong Dong. The restaurants near Khem generally look like they are affiliated with resorts, and we prefer more authentic, standalone establishments. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello

Kem beach and neighbouring Sao beaches are probably the best options for actual beach at that time of year. The sea may be a bit calmer but you’re still likely to have rain and cloud.

The problem with Kem is there isn’t a great deal of everything else you describe. Eating outside the hotel options are fairly limited. There is one good local beach bar on the far left of Kem if you’re facing the sea. Thanh Nga is the name.

Approach the reference to supposedly vibrant Sunset Town in the post above with caution. Most find it fake and soulless- not a place you’d want to waste precious holiday time in. It’s an example of some of the poorly planned development PQ is a bit infamous for.

For a good selection of independent places to eat and drink you’re best off looking around Ong Lang or Long Beach (Long beach is long! Choose the section you go for carefully). Though both are on the west by later in October you may get lucky with the weather.

And one more option…. have you looked at Con Dao as an option? Weather can be better for beach at that time of year.

    Happy planning.

Hi there. A few thoughts for you. Khem beach is certainly the best beach on the island in terms of visual appeal. Its in the South east and protected by emerald bay and so its very calm and crystal clear water at that time of year. The west coast however at that time of year can have alot of wind and therefore the water is highly susceptible to being really brown and choppy and not for swimming, however its close to Duong Dong and street life if that’s important. In terms of restaurants and bars near Khem beach. There are three resorts within 5 minute walk up the beach with some stunning bars particularly at the JW marriott. On the sand between the resorts is a few independant restaurants in traditional thatched huts. Khem beach has a little village with minimarts, icecream stands etc. There is also a free bus every 30 minutes to take you to Sunset town about 5 minutes away, where there is lots of stylish bars and restaurants open at night. For really traditional local establishments, its about 10 minute walk to the highway where there are many eclectic cafes, karaoke bars and vegi markets .

    Have fun
