My travel schedule includes a week in Ha Giang starting October 7, with four days dedicated to completing the loop. The original plan was to do this by jeep, but the tour company today recommended switching to a car due to the anticipated rain (and lower temperatures). Completing the loop was a key motivation for my return to Vietnam, but I’m apprehensive about potential landslides and road closures resulting from the two approaching typhoons. I’m therefore regrettably considering cancelling the excursion. Since I have until the end of September to cancel, I can observe the situation, but I must begin devising a Plan B!
I would highly appreciate any recommendations for a different week-long destination that might be safer and more enjoyable given the current weather forecasts. I’m already scheduled to visit Ninh Binh, Pu Luong, and Mai Chau, so ideally somewhere new. I am particularly interested in areas featuring beautiful rural landscapes and minority villages.
Or perhaps my concerns are exaggerated?
Thank you in advance for any input.

My unforgettable trip to India, which took place a few years ago, was in October. I would definitely choose to go back during the same time of year. Regarding the temperature, the only instance I felt cool was when I got wet after a brief rain shower. The majority of the time, my main issue was just getting sunburnt.

“Or perhaps my concerns are exaggerated?”
Yes, you are.
October is “golden”/high season. Places like the former districts of Hoang Su Phi and Vi Xuyen will be overrun with locals on the weekends.
Your also overthinking the jeep vs. car issue. October is not “cold” if you are from the UK, Canda, much of the USA.
I would go to HG around October 1st myself but I have an issue with my back.
Take care
You should definitely look into rescheduling for a more favorable season. Who gave you the recommendation that October was the best time to visit North Vietnam?
